Staff

Nakama is run by an eclectic group of people. We cover a broad range of...people-ness. Our ages cover the 18 to 30-something spectrum and we have a melting pot with flavors from all over the globe including the Philippines, India, Singapore and the UK. You could say Nakama is much like the BL community itself - varied, diverse and unexpected. :)

Nakama is non-profit and no money is made by anything we produce here. We never solicit donations from our fans or members and we don't even do any of that pay for advertising or adsense mess.

With that said, all of us here at Nakama volunteer what free-time we have. We're all full-time, "real-live" people. Not robots. Some of us are juggling university, some of us families and most of us are juggling careers. Pepper in all that real-life drama and we're just like you. But we just do this too.

Scanlation groups in general have the same basic staff positions:

  • Translators
    Can't very well translate manga without translators, now can you? Our talented babes of verse are either Japanese to English or Chinese to English gurus. <3 Nakama also has a sub-position of SFX translators. Sound Effects are not as easy as one may think and we luuuurve our SFX Translators.

  • Editors
    In the scanlation world, editors are like graphic artists. They do their photoshop magic via cloning and typesetting. A few of our editors are also experienced professional graphic artists. What a fab coincidence. :D

  • Qcers & Proofers
    Translating is tricky business. Our Quality Checkers, more commonly known as QCers, and proofers wield their red pens of doom upon our scripts. Unlike editing copy, QCers have to have that special eye for cosmetic and graphical issues. Nakama has some of the best. *chomps them*

  • Scanners
    Nakama always takes pride in knowing where their original scans come from. Scanners take the original, paper manga and scan them in for the digital magic to begin. It's not as easy as it sounds as it takes some effort and work to produce quality scans to work from.

We've been around since 2003, so we've seen a lot of great talents come and go, but full-time or part-time, we're keeping the wheels turning. XD
